When is the best time of the year to visit Cape Cod?

    There's a lot more going on in the summertime. The Cape Cod League (made even more famous by the 2001 movie "Summer Catch") has games going on all summer long. I had the good fortune to spend most of one summer in Chatham (right on the elbow of Cape Cod). If you go, consider staying at the Chatham Bars Inn. It's a delightful resort overlooking the bay. And stop by Haven's Market where they always have three kinds of donuts labeled "These", "Them", and "Those". Be careful driving on Highway 6. There are always plenty of accidents on the 2-lane section of it.

Early fall mid-Sept. - first week of Oct. is the best time. The weather is pleasant, the crowds are gone and the ocean is still warm. A few of the more touristy restaurants hotels close as the season wanes, but the ones that remain open often offer very good 'shoulder' season deals.
