What's the deal with Austin Texas?

  • I'm moving from Saint Louis to Austin Texas at the end of August...just basically trying to find out whats there to do down there, where are some good places to look for jobs, what are some good colleges (I'm looking @ Univ. Texas @ Austin) but im open to others...NIGHTLIFE how is the nightlife seen (I'm trying to start an entertainment company) as well

    Disregard the Rosewood neighborhood comment. i'm sure they said that because you're black. Even though they're gentrifying the East Side, Rosewood ain't where you wanna be. And disregard the Texas A&M comment because A&M is about 1 & 1/2 hours away from austin. SHE'S MOVING TO AUSTIN JACKASS, NOT BRYAN/COLLEGE STATION. I didn't go to college in town, i went to Houston, so I can't tell you much about the schools here. But yea, everybody applies to UT and only a handful get in. That's true. The nightlife is great. There's something for everybody. No such thing though as far as good places to look for jobs. They're all over the city, you just have to find somebody who's actually hiring.

There are no jobs available now except for high level posititions for career professionals. The best neighborhood to live in is Rosewood neighborhood.

Good luck with UT. For the fall semester, they had 30,000 applicants for 6000 spots. Other Austin colleges include Huston-Tillotson, Concordia, St. Edwards, Austin Community College plus Texas State in San Marcos (1/2 hour south of Austin) and Southwestern in Georgetown (1/2 hour north of Austin) Jobs are pretty scarce here right now, depending on what field you are looking into. Nightlife is supposedly good-- I am not into that sort of thing. Sixth Street is the place to be if you are into bars and live music. There is bar after bar after bar there.

Oh my god. DONT go to UT!!!!!!! You are a number there and not a person. Try Texas A&M. It is such a nice campus and the classes are great. There are tons of restaurants near A&M and booze is soo cheap on campus. There is an avid nightlife, and the jobs are better because of the smaller campus population.
