I'm choosing between Austin and Chicago...how is Austin for 30-something singles?
-
Here's my situation in a nutshell. I'm in Seattle, and have to decide which branch of my company to move to. They are giving me a choice of Austin or Chicago. Here's the thing...I'm 36 and a single male, and looking for an area kind to someone like me in that situation. Now, I here Austin has a heavy skewing towards younger 20-somethings per the single scene. I've also heard the sex ratio is 55%-male, 45% female as well, which makes sense per the tech jobs, and even the fact that most musicians themselves are male. Also heard that what passes for a meeting place strip of clubs is frathouse row, and that even the warehouse dist. is mostly college kids, with a "hey, are you guys wasted? mentality". Finally, I hear that there is an almost absolute lack of available 30 something single women in Austin, and that if you are 35+. plan on either dating young twenty-somethings, if you look young enough and/or are loaded, or spend many nights in social siberia.

Answer:
Dating at 30+ can be a lil bit of a task especially if you are looking for someone who has never married or had a kid. However,30+ still single women are usually those in "big" professions so i guess your job might lead you to that good someone.

As I am a 30 something single who lives in Dallas but have been to Austin and Chicago for some parties, I can say that in Austin, places like the Brown Bar on Eighth street has a good 30 something crowd. Try Sky Lounge off of Congress or Six which is on West Fourth Street (main investor is Lance Armstrong). In Chicago maybe the O lounge (has some younger and older mix), The Globe off of West Irving Park Rd., P.J. Clarke's off of North State Parkway or Le Bar off of East Chestnut St. (inside the Sofitel Hotel). There are 30 something singles in both cities and each have their benefits. There are quite a few 18-25 singles in Chicago as well so don't think that Austin is the only place like that. I enjoy both cities but I like the warm weather in Texas. Chicago suburbs actually have some good 30 something singles places as well. If you can get away for a few days check out the scene and ask some locals and try it for yourself. Good luck.
