  • Answer:

It is very hot in the summer. Spring time has a lot of cedar pollen. Austin is not as humid as San Antonio, Houston or Corpus, but is is hotter.

Austin has a great climate. The summers are hot - some not as hot as others and some hotter than others. I myself do not use air conditioning because I cannot afford it and I get by with ceiling fans and stand up fans (everywhere!). You have the lakes to go cool off and plenty of pools. Barton Springs will surely cool you off. It is not unbearable - I remember one summer of way too many days of 100 degree plus temperatures for several weeks but that is not the norm. I did not have allergies until I was here for about 10 years and then I like everyone else developed them. Everything blooms early and pollen and ragweed and whatnot abound. There are plenty of allergists in town but nothing compares to 80 degree temperatures in December, January, February while the rest of the country is shivering and shoveling. Like they say, if you don't like the temperature today, wait until tomorrow, it will either drop 30 degrees or rise 30 degrees. Austin is great - don't worry so much - your first summer is the worst and then you don't even notice it. Really.

Austin Texas is hot and humid with lots of rain... pretty stinky weather if you ask me.

the summers are unbearably hot and humid to the point that you question why am I here?? 100 is quite common but the high humidity makes it worse. Get in a swimming pool and you're hot from the neck up anyway. "Cooler in the shade" does not apply to austin. Not sure about allergies but East Texas is BAD with them.

HOT!!! Last wed it was 95 degrees here. I used to live in ATL and had horrible allergies and took meds for it. Haven't had to take any here since moving last July...Good luck

The weather here in austin has been really weird. This year our winter rain didn't really start until like February. But one day it will be really sunny, the next really cloudy, and rainy YET 80 degrees and humid. During the summer it gets up to about 120 at the most.... typically it stays 90-100 weather it's clear out or not. we get random crazy rain showers during the summer too...it gets really cold in November and stays that way until about February.

I lived in Austin for 6 years, and my allergies were awful, so stock up on your prescription, try to avoid moving to an area with tons of cedar, and consider visiting an allergist within a few weeks of moving there (I loved Austin Allergy and Asthma on 34th St). The main thing about Austin weather is it's unpredictability. It will go from a stormy awful morning to sunshine and back again in the course of just a few hours. It can get really hot, but highs over 100 weren't a daily occurence. I don't know if you're from Texas, but the humidity isn't near as bad in Austin as it is in other areas, so the heat is drier and doesn't feel like a hot wet blanket. I really never minded the Austin weather, but I'm a native Texan so heat just seems par for the course. Regardless of weather, Austin is the most diverse, active, and fun city in Texas, so you'll learn to love it regardless.
