Atlanta, GA - Is Lawrenceville, GA good for a single parent with kids?
-
I am thinking of relocating to Triangle Park, NC or Atlanta, GA in about 3 months. I am single parent and want my kids to live somewhere that is nice, low crime and has a lot of entertainment. If I settle in Atl, I will live in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett Cty. If I do NC, I am thinking of Raleigh. I've never been to NC. But they have more jobs to me than Atlanta. I've been looking for a job in Atlanta for 3 months and got crummy offers. Other than that, no one has called me for an interview. Then people keep telling me ATL got bad, has bad traffic even in Gwinnett Cty. I don't want to move there and be without a job. I also don't want to move to Raleigh where I know no one and don't know my way around there. Which would be better?

Triangle Park nC, is an eductional hub. Great education for kids. Lawrenceville, leaves something to be desired in the education department. There are better school districts in ATL, but a little more costy to live. ATL is great for jobs; so is NC.

For your kids, I would stay out of Ga unless you are thinking of investing in a private education. Our education system is getting terrible. Other than that I like it here. I live about 30 miles SE of Lawrenceville- it is a nice community and has many subdivisions with single-family homes. Standard surburia. Traffic can be pretty rough- it depends on where you are going in Atlanta. I have worked all over the city and the north end seems to be the worst by far (Chastain.Dunwoody area)

I completely agree with the previous answerer "success" she is right about the education system here, Georgia doesn't rank very well in that department. Traffic is horrible! I currently have been living in Atlanta for 7 years and am actually looking to move up to the Triangle Park, NC area myself. Personally I would move to NC if I were you. Yes, Atlanta has alot to offer, entertainment wise - but for your kids sake I would move to NC.

Gwinnett County Schools are seriously slacking, not a good place for kids. Go to the RTP, besides- NC has a higher and better rating system for their schools as compared to GA. Also, do not live directly in Raleigh, consider the outter areas, such as Cary, or Fuqua-Varina and so forth.

If you want to move to Atlanta, I recommend the Douglasville/Lithia Springs area. It is a 15-20 min. drive to Atlanta, but it is a very nice area. I'd love to live there myself. When it comes to schools, I would avoid counties like Clayton, Gwinnett, DeKalb, etc. Georgia has a flawed education system, but its not like your children wouldn't learn anything.
