How do forest conserve water?

Should THOUSANDS of Georgia, Alabama & Florida jobs be lost because Atlanta doesn't conserve enough water?

  • Georgia governor Sonny Perdue has fraudulently framed the debate in the "water war" as "Atlanta's people vs. Florida's mussels" (referring to an endangered species that the Greenies emphasized in early disputes). However, with more water being taken out of the shared rivers because Atlanta hasn't conserved enough water, the wetlands in Florida where many fish breed before going out to sea have been suffering. In addition, the bays in the Florida panhandle, where 90% of Florida's oyster harvest takes place, have been devastated. As a result the seafood industry has lost thousands of jobs, in some of the poorest areas in the country. The oyster industry alone is about to crash and burn, not to mention shrimp and grouper fishing. Should Governor Perdue's water grab be stopped by the federal government, and strict emergency water use restrictions be put in place, to save Florida, Alabama and Georgia from a financial and ecological disaster?

  • Answer:

The funny thing here is: I lived in Atlanta more than 20 years ago and anybody with a pulse knew there was a problem with Lake Lanier then!! This is not new. Personally, my opinion is that just because Lake Lanier is in Georgia does not mean the water belongs solely to Georgia. 'People' do not take precedence over climate or environment. 'People' are not more important than animals.

The situation is affecting millions, and I agree that many people have wasted water. I personally have not. Atlanta has lost millions of dollars already in it's local businesses due to the drought and the water shortage. It going to affect us all unless it rains and rains and rains. I understand the anger, but I guess it depends on what side of the stream you are on with this question. It is not just what the Army Core of Engineers is doing that is creating a financial and ecological disaster, in the end it comes down to bad weather patterns...Sadly we can't get angry at the weather,so we just rant at each other.

He is doing his part, he prayed today. If that doesn't cause water I don't know what will.

Sonny is making me so sick right now. He is more concerned about his butt then anything else. Also the job that HAS to go are the landscaping ones. People could deal with brown grass for awhile.

Is there a choice? Without water, jobs are going to be the last thing on people's minds. But if this in regard to blaming someone, we have only ourselves to look at.
