How to get from Atlanta, GA to Alpharetta, GA with no car?

  • I'm taking a Greyhound bus to Atlanta (exact address of the station is 232 Forsyth St.) and I need to get to Alpharetta, but the only problem is that I won't have a ride waiting for me because it's a surprise visit. Is there any type of transit system that could take me there? I can adjust my time as needed and but I'll be arriving on a Saturday. I just need to be able to get to Alpharetta, not to any specific address. Money is an issue, so I'd like something free or cheap.

    Free and cheap limits you to walking. It's about 25 miles, 6 hr walk. The light rail (MARTA) red line will take you to Sandy Springs. From there you'll have about a 12 mile walk. With luggage, you're talking about a good, heavy workout. There is actually a combination bus and light rail service that will get you to Alphretta. The Greyhound station is next door to the Garnett Marta Station. Go to the Garnett Station and ride the red line north to North Springs Marta Station. From North Springs Marta Station you can connect to the 140 bus (North Point). The 140 will take you to North Point Mall which is in Alpharetta. There are a few bus lines in Alpharetta. You can use google's map search to get better transit directions since you will be able to put your exact destination address in the google search. Just go to google.com and click maps (at the top). Click get directions. Above the two rectangular A&B boxes click "by public transit". A way one ticket on marta is about $2.25 i think.
