Duluth, GA or Alpharetta, GA? Which is the best place to live?
-
My husband and I is planning to relocate to GA in the near future. I would like to know which city has the most diveristy, best school system and lessor crime rate Alpharetta, GA or Duluth, GA. I'm looking for a low crime rate, great schools ( preferably christian schools) and a culturally-friendly culture because I'm of african-american descent. Please only people who have lived in this cities, please respond. Thanks.

Of the two choices you gave, Alpharetta is definitely better. However, I would suggest that it is best to decide on a city AFTER you have jobs. Trust me when I say that you will want to live as close as possible to where you work. Otherwise, you will be sitting in traffic too much of the time.

I would suggest Alpharetta for sure... It has grown so much in the last few years. I drove through there a few days ago and it is so nice. I used to work there near Medlock and I loved it. The neighborhoods are very nice and many of my friends went to school there. The schools are very good, I am not sure about Christian schools as there are not many in GA at all but the school systems are good regardless especially in Alpharetta. Hope this helps

Well, Duluth is in Gwinnett County which has the best and most schools in the state. Duluth however is an older city and can be kind of trashy in some places. Alpharetta is in Fulton County which also has goods schools but not as many. The city is home to most of the celebrities that live in the Atlanta area. It has a "snobby" feel to it with nice cars and homes. Do keep in mind that property taxes in Fulton County are way higher than Gwinnett. Also keep in mind location. Gwinnett is North of Atlanta and Fulton is West of Atlanta. They are about 20 miles apart from one another. As for culture friendly, I think either place would be fine. Duluth has a hispanic population that outweighs the hispanic population in Alpharetta.

I would go with Alpharetta. I live in Duluth, and unless you're on the 30097 side, it's getting pretty bad. Alpharetta is gonna cost you more, but it's worth it. Another possibility would be Suwanee. Very nice, and culturally friendly. But yeah, if I had to choose, it'd be Alpharetta or Suwanee. I'm planning on moving out of Duluth ASAP and those are my two top choices out of anywhere in the metro area. =)

I would go with Alpharetta. I think the area is nicer than the Duluth area in general. They are both culturally diverse.

Alpharetta is known for good school districts, and tech companies. It is generally more expensive than Duluth, and as such you can expect it to be a more sought after place. Duluth is in the fast growing Gwinnett country and has good schools and million dollar homes as well... but it generally gets a bad rap because of a few bad areas. I live in Suwanee, which I found to be a very good value, and the Money Magazine confirmed my choice by picking Suwanee as one of the best places to live ( http://xmplary.blogspot.com/2008/10/sims-lake-park.html ) Another good choice would be Johns Creek, which was recently broken off to become an independent city. Feel free to search homes on my site at http://xmplary.net if you want to get an idea of whats out there. Here are some links to compare the city data. Don't know who took the ugly pics for Suwanee and from where, but I just uploaded a few nice pics I had taken from Sims Lake and Town Center Park. Hope they show up. http://www.city-data.com/city/Alpharetta-Georgia.html http://www.city-data.com/city/Duluth-Georgia.html http://www.city-data.com/city/Suwanee-Georgia.html

If you're gonna be a downtown commuter, another thing that makes Alpharetta better is easy access to the rail line, which is the only part of MARTA that is practical. I wouldn't want to be stuck with driving (or sitting on, rather) the I-85 corridor or GA 400 every day, no thanks.
Mikey thinks maybe you should brush up on your schooling. " My husband and I ARE planning to...................." " lessor crime rate .............." WTF ! " a culturally - friendly culture .........." WTF!
