What does the term "responsible tourism" mean to you?
-
Malaysia is blessed with some truly beautiful islands and beaches but the natural beauty of these places is in danger of being ruined by irresponsible tourists. Islands like Redang, Perhentian, Langkawi and Sipadan attract many tourists each year and are becoming polluted at an alarming rate. I'm sure no one can remember how beautiful Port Dickson used to be back in its heyday. All we can recall is the image of a dirty and disgustingly polluted beach. The government of Sabah is finding ways to ensure that Sipadan Island, one of the most beautiful diving spots in the world, doesn't go the way of places like Port Dickson. So, what does it mean to be a responsible tourist?

Answer:
it's called respect. what ever country, state, city or even your neighbors house you should respect the surroundings where you are. some people just don't care and they throw garbage anywhere they want, i think it's disgusting.

Well this is difficult. Let me give you some example, people from countries like Japan, Singapore or most western countries basic etiquette like Q up for your turn, do not litter , or obey the sign are normal things in their life. They do it naturally even if it is outside their country. So I think we must learn how to love and respect the natural surrounding of our country like our house, dont you think life would be much much easier...

Responsibility must FIRST start with the people who first open up the destinations for the tourists. Redang, Perhentian, Langkawi and Sipadan, who are the people who got the idea going on ? If you want the place to be unspoiled in every way, then you should have just leave the place as it is. Bring the tourists in with just a simple boat. Let them see for themselves the beauty in its' true nature. Make real tree houses for them to stay instead of uprooting the earth and changing the scenery for hotels. Just like Mount Everest. Do you find people making any special pathways for climbers to climb ? Mount Everest hardly changes from the time it comes into existence. Yet so many people come. So many people want to climb it. I think if tourists only want to shop, then they should spend a lot of time in big cities, doing nothing but shopping. If they want to play golf, then find a suitable land and make a golfing paradise. If they want to gamble, then there should be more gambling places like Genting Highlands. If they want luxury, then more luxurious developments should be carried out.
