What's it like to be a travel agent?

Wha is cheaper and better way to travel. with travel packages or make my own?

  • want to know whats the best wau to travel. with a travel agent package or me choosing my own things , arline hotels.

  • Answer:

It depends on what kind of traveler you are, seasoned tourist or someone who just travels once for several years. And how much you know about your destination. If you're experienced on handling all your travel needs, you know, hotels, transportation, sightseeing, dining etc, self-organized tours will be more economical and fun.

It all depends on when you book, destination, duration and level of comfort required. A city break or tourist resort package may be cheaper than booking hotel and flight separately. But as a visitor to the US it was far far cheaper for me to travel coast to coast and back on a US Rail Pass and book my own accommodation. I've set up a Travel Dashboard that includes everything I found I needed to research my trips, and it should help answer your question! It allows you to price up your flights and accommodation, it also provides Travel and Vaccination Information by country, exchange rate, timezone, city weather/Wifi hotspots and also the latest travel news/advisories from the US, UK governments etc. http://inblighty.com/dashboard/travel-tools.php It doesn't include package prices as its impossible to be sure I'm comparing equivalents - so you would have compare its prices for independent travel with price quoted on tour company websites. I took a year out to travel including much of Europe and the US. I started with a late deal package to Egypt (Pyramids, Cairo, Nile Cruise Luxor etc) and also got a cheap flight to Cuba, and a one way flight to Turkey through late deals on package company and charter flight websites. HOWEVER, it was usually cheaper to book flights via comparison sites, and use Hostel/Hotel booking sites. Hope this helps.

It really depends on what you want to do, and how experienced your agent is. If you want more flexibility in your choices, you might want to do it yourself, but if you want some of the 'best of' types of activities, go with a package. Be prepared to research beforehand. Sometimes there are deals the agent will miss.

It depends if you believe that time = money. You could put together your own package, but it would take a great deal of research. You don't have to take a "package" deal with an agent, you can work with them to design your own. In my experience, it's worth the money (which can be around $50 per airline ticket, with commensurate charges for other bookings).
