Will my phone work while on vacation?

i have Verizon and i like in the U.S. but im going to France for vacation would my phone still work there as in call and text, and also would it cost anything to call my mom or dad?

I am puzzled to know why you would ask such a queation. As to would it cost to call your mom or dad. It would not cost you if you called them collect, otherwise, yes.
