Are there any good schools in Northeast Philadelphia?

What's like living in England or Northeast US?

  • I currently live in the southern part of the U.S, and I am thinking about going to a University around the east coast, most likely northeast. The thing is, I've always loved the "New England" cities, they have a certain charm to them. I mean, New York, Boston, Chicago, (which isn't exactly on the east coast, bit still) Philadelphia, etc? Is it too hectic, or is it actually nice to travel on the Subway, and all those? If you've lived/live there, please describe in detail! (: Also, living in England, is like, a dream of mine. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not planning to go to university there, but maybe once I graduate, I could move there. I just think the English lifestyle is more human, I don't even know if I make sense! Since I want to eventually have a family, I think England's a better place to raise kids, mostly because of their education, I've been to public schools here and the States, and I'm just not completely satisfied! I've talked to a lot of people that have lived there (London, specifically) and here (in the U.S.) and they tell me that here, people are workaholics, whereas in England, people are more relaxed, and they just live life, they walk to places, they're not always in a rush. Anyone who lives/has lived in England, can you please tell me how it is there? And even better, if you've lived in both, the U.S. and England, could you compare them? If you answer, please make it long and detailed. Thanks!

  • Answer:

I'm from NYC, so I'm used to the lifestyle. I have no idea if you would consider it to be "too hectic," because to me it's just normal. To me, the rest of the world is a bit slow. You might want to give up on your dream of moving to England. Getting a visa to live/work there is very difficult. Unless you get a job in the US that will transfer you to London, it's not likely that you'd be granted permission to live and work there (unless you've got a special skill that's needed there). It's a similar situation for Brits who want to live/work in the US. I've been to London on vacation. Nobody made fun of my accent, and people seemed very pleasant. It's a big city so it's fast-paced, similar to NY.

"the thing is, I've always loved the "New England" cities, they have a certain charm to them. I mean, New York, Boston, Chicago, (which isn't exactly on the east coast, bit still) Philadelphia"-- making this comment about these cities should create some laughs. Also, I'm not sure if I would want to move to England now that I find out that they monitor everyone's phone lines. It doesn't matter who is resigning now and if the company shuts down (sadly after 100+ years) it will continue
