How do I get into hotel industry?

I want to get into the hotel business/tourist industry, how is the best way to start on the ladder?

• what sort of qualifications/personal skills does one need. I would like to do a language course, I am currently in university but dont like my course, what could i swap it for that would be benificial for this industy? thank you for any help

  A married couple I am friends with have taken over running a youth hostel for a year. Neither of them have done anything like this before, so it seems like an easy and low-profile thing to get into, but that will look good on a resume. Obviously you'd need some qualification to get the job; she's had experience as an assistant administrator of some office; he's experienced in building maintenance. I'm not sure what course you should take, but I think a youth hostel or something similar would be a good place for a young person like you to start.
