How exactly do i get a passport?

In a hurry to get a passport, how exactly do i go about doing it?

  • A friend of mine lives in Canada (Toronto) but she is moving further away in about 4 weeks. I want to go visit her because i can do the trip to Toronto but a trip to where she is moving to in Canada is way too long for me to do. However, I do not have a passport (i have never had one before) so I am new to the whole process. I want to get the passport as soon as I can but the regular time it takes is around 6 weeks (i have heard from some people that it takes even longer than that) so I can't do that because i need it in less than 4 weeks. I think i can do the expedited service but I need to go in person to a Passport Agency (the NYC one is closest) and it states that, "You must present proof of international travel within 2 weeks of the appointment or proof of emergency abroad." How would i present proof that i am traveling within two weeks when all i am doing is driving into Canada and staying at my friends house, i mean i don't have a hotel reservation or a airline reservation so what am i supposed to present to them? I have everything else i need (pictures, drivers license, SS card, birth certificate, and a completed DS-11 form).

  • Answer:

You can't be the first person to have this problem. Call and make an appointment, and tell the person on the phone when you do. I suppose you could give them your friend's Toronto phone number, and they could call her to verify she's expecting you.
