An inn is a hotel in a rural setting, a hotel requires you have luggage, a motel needs only your plate number and you address and signature.

Hotels have room service, restaurants, valet service, Concierge etc and Motels only have the room, and usually no restaurant... Take care.. Bcn_mimosa

A hotel is built up height wise hence the "H" so it is built taller, while a motel is built width wise hence the "M" shape it uses because it is built outward and is usually not more than two or three levels.
