Where can I travel with a temporary passport?

Where can i travel to without a passport.?

  • I live in England and would like to know where is the furthest I can travel to without having a valid British passport. or which countries can i travel to just using a driving licence.

    As a UK citizen, the only places you can travel to without a passport are in the Common Travel Area - that is, the UK (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland), the Republic of Ireland, the Isle of Man, and the Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey. You do need a passport to travel to any other country including the rest of the EU as the UK is not part of the Schengen Area and we don't have an official National ID card which other EU citizens can use instead of a passport to travel within the EU. Note that some airlines (e.g. Ryanair) require you to have a passport to travel even within the UK. Oh, and just to clarify a common misunderstanding - neither the Isle of Man, nor Jersey, nor Guernsey are part of the UK or the EU - they are British Crown Dependencies.

The Republic of Ireland only requires valid photo ID like your driving licence. that's about it. The only other way is to join the merchant navy or the armed forces. That way you can travel using just your seamans papers or your form 1629, your military ID card.
