How to travel across the country with no money?

Is this a lot of money to travel across the country?

  • My teacher is holding a trip to Washington DC & NY at the end of this school year. Oh, btw, I am 13/8th grade. We are in Los Angeles, CA. The whole trip (round trip flight, hotel, touring all the famous landmarks, food, etc) is going to cost $1, 714. Would I be getting "ripped off"?

    It depends on how long the trip is, the places you stay in, exactly when you're going, what you eat ... You might be able to price this trip on your own for less, but considering everything you're getting including the places to stay, food, any entrance fees to the attractions and local transportation in Washington and New York, that seems pretty reasonable. At 13, you obviously couldn't literally do this on your own; having the escort to take care of everything is a valuable part of the trip.

No. and Yes. It depends on the flight ticket, how nice the hotel looks, the bus, and how much the food is.

That is likely a reasonable price. You don't say how long the trip is, what week of the year, how many entrance fees to landmarks, will you have a full time tour guide, how many kids per room, how many meals included, and all those things are important. NY and DC are very expensive cities, a bit more so than LA. When my son did that trip it cost him slightly more, but it may have been a longer trip. He's going to Paris this spring break with his teacher and friends, because the trip to NY/DC went so well and it's the same tour company. I could probably do a trip to Paris a bit better than the tour, as I lived there, but going with family isn't the same experience as traveling with one's friends and teacher. Good luck!

Actually that is less expensive than most cross country student trips. i think it will be well worth the experience.
