Where is the best place for travelling by ownself?

If i am travelling at night in my car, where is the best place to find public restrooms after 12:00:am?

    I suppose it depends where you are and if there are any open space areas around you. While most parks seems to close 1 hour after sundown or at 11 pm or any other assigned time, you could always drive up/hike in a bit and use the public restrooms that most open space/parks have. 24 hour supermarkets may have them as well. I wonder if coffeeshops/libraries that advertise free WiFi have it turned on at night? Then you could park next to one of those buildings and use the Internet all night long! I lived out of my car while traveling cross-country, but as I wasn't familiar with any nearby parks, etc, I would just "hold it" except for Number 1, which you can get away with nearly anywhere. Just try to be 500' from any major watershed. I would use WalMarts, etc, during the day.

If you're on the interstate there should be rest areas (open 24 hrs. per day) where you can park for a bathroom or just park and catch some Zs. If you are in a city I'd look for your typical all-night diner (IHOP, Denny's Village Inn) or Wal-Marts, which are open 24 hrs often. Other than that, large truck stops can be a good option.

In the US: Wal Mart Supercenter, 24 hour fast food restaurants, 24 hr grocery stores, Large truck stops(Flying J, Pilot, Loves, etc) I am not sure why the one person said stay away from truck stops, the larger ones have security and are very well lit. Canada: 24 hr fast food places, coffee shops, any 24 hour grocery store or pharmacy, Wal Mart Supercentres(certain provinces have them), Husky, PetroCanada, etc.

i know A&P and some other food stores are open 24 hours, 7 eleven, i think and CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid will generally have 1 store in an area of 4-5 stores, that is open 24 hours. Usually its the one off the state highway. Most Wawa's are open 24 hours and some Dunkin Donuts.
