How can I find a travel agent?

How can I find out if the travel agent has lied to me?

  • Last week my travel consultant from a well known travel agency rang me to inform me that the particular resort i have booked to go to in feb 2010 will have major building work going on and that they recommend i change to a different resort. She said their bookings head office had informed her of that. So I booked a different but more expensive resort. I could have gone slightly cheaper but decided to upgrade. NOW via tripadvisor I have found out from another traveller that they have booked that same resort and were told there is no building work going on there and that they would never know this so far in advance??? I have been booing with this travel agent for years so cannot imagine she would lie. What should I do? leave things as they are and ignore what i found out on tripadvisor? OR ask my agent what's going on?

    The agent might be on the ball and having been told that building work is expected to take place in Feb 2010, have rebooked you now while there are still good alternatives. Many operators will leave it until the last minute to tell you, or not tell you at all. Tripadvisor may not yet have been advised of planned work. Major building work would require planning permissions etc so info being available now is about right.

Id say that your travel agent is on the ball, working in a similar background it is alot of hassle to outbook someone to another resort, Id say that as they proberly pump alot of business into that resort that the resort have told them first off that work will be happeneing to keep a good working relationship with them. If you are happy with you choosen accomodation now, i wouldnt worry about it, but if its going to annot you there is no harm in ringing her to double check, she wont be put out by it..

Maybe you could telephone the resort? If your agent is lying it may be that they are covering for the fact that they failed to get a booking for you?

E-mail the resort and tell them exactly whats going on. They want your business, so they'll be happy to tell you if they are going to be undergoing construction or not.

Call the resort you originally booked into and tell them what your travel agent told you. If it turns out that what your travel agent told you was in fact a lie, ask for something in writing. Once you have that present it to your travel agent and say you are going to contact an attorney unless they reimburse you for the difference.

Contact the travel agent and tell her what you have found out. Ask her what is going on. If she has lied to you, do you think you will trust her for your next booking? If she is telling the truth she will reassure you that she has not lied, but I think you need to find out either way.

Be direct and tell her what you have heard, give her the chance to check her source or give you the real reason for the change. Explain what the consequences will be if you are unhappy and allow her to then handle the situation. If you are still unhappy then change agents and rebook your trip.

Trip advisor is only a guide. There is no way other holidaymakers will know what is about to take place. Personally I would prefer the advice of my travel agent to a statement on Trip Advisor. I never book through a travel agent. I do everything online myself. It's so easy and I do my own research.

Hold a gun to their head and ask them straight up =] *joke* Ask someone who knows exactly what their talking about. There should be a place in town who knows all about your rights and can advise u on this kinda stuff for free =]
