Transit visa at Spanish airport (Barajas, Madrid)?

Question on Madrid transit visa...?

  • Here's the story. I'm a native Filipino holding a Philippine passport going to San Jose, Costa Rica for a vacation. I don't have a Costa Rica visa because as per the Costa Rica consulate here in Manila, they told me that you can go to Costa Rica without a visa but you can only stay for 30 days (which is fine with me). My flight route is Manila, Philippines -> Doha, Qatar -> Madrid, Spain (here, I'll be arriving at Terminal 1 but will depart at Terminal 4) -> Costa Rica. Since I'll be at Madrid, Spain for my next flight going to Costa Rica (I have to wait for less than 6 hours for the flight to Costa Rica) and is required to move from terminal 1 to terminal 4, am I required to obtain a Madrid, Spain transit visa? I asked this because there are some websites and even the travel agency said that it is required but there are also some websites indicating that I don't need a transit visa since that I do have a fully booked round trip ticket from Philippines to Costa Rica vise versa and will not be staying in the Madrid terminals for 24 hours. I already booked a ticket to leave at July 19 with this flight plan because I strongly believe that I won't be needing a transit visa because I will not leave the airport premises (considering the fact that Madrid's terminal 1 and terminal 4 are considered inside a single airport). I hope someone credible enough can help me answer this question. Thank you.
