What do housekeeping clerk in a hotel do?

Is it ok to tip hotel check-in clerk?

  • Is it ok to tip the hotel check-in clerk at a 4 star hotel to get a room with a better view?

  • Answer:

Way back when I was in university, I worked as the graveyard front desk clerk at a Wyndham Hotel and I can tell you that tipping me would not have done anything to get a better room. Either I could have given you an upgrade or I couldn't. I would have had to pay the difference out of my own paycheck if I had upgraded beyond the proscribed limit. You might as well just pay the extra money for a nicer suite. Good luck and enjoy your trip!

It's not customary but if they upgraded you, then it's OK.

You're far better off getting that at the front desk when you check in?

Only if you have received an upgrade...don't tip her to get the upgrade...bribes are frowned upon. Hope you get a great room!
