What's your favorite year of Cadillac?

Taking a road trip with my 4 year old son?

  • Will be going from Boston to Harrisburg P.A. one day there then over to Hershey for the day. After that off to Rogers Arkansas. My husband will be working in A.R. and we will be coming for the ride. If you have gone on a road trip like this with kids, how long do you think they can stand being in a car before you gotta stop and let off steam. What did you bring to entertain them during the ride? I have a Cadillac Deville without a DVD player. I guess I can buy a portable one if necessary..but outside of that..what things can a 4 year old do on a long car trip? Coloring books and what else? Also my husband will be in Arkansas for 10 days working on a new restaurant called Granite City or something like that and I want to know whats going on in and around Rogers Arkansas that I can do . Touristy stuff...sights that shouldn't be missed etc. Thanks for the help you guys ROCK!

  • Answer:

Sing songs, play I Spy, etc. Involve the kid in the trip, point stuff out to him outside the window. Odds are he'll fall asleep halfway there.

There are always letter and number games. 4 is not too early to start these car games, he should know some of them already. Examples would be: the number of red (or whatever) cars, how many "A"s can you find, etc. My kids all loved these games when they were little.

Three words: Books on Tape (or CD). You can check out a bunch from your local library or buy them online, borrow from friends, etc. Also: - kid-appropriate sing-along music (you'll have more fun than you might think!) - if you're going with your husband, while one person drives, the other can sit in the back with your son for a while to color with him, work on his ABCs, play tic tac toe, etc. - bring along a few stuffed animals or 'dolls' to play with He'll probably end up sleeping a lot - especially if you tire him out at an amusement park first! :) Another thing to try and arrange is leaving very early in the morning or drive through the night so that you're traveling when he's normally asleep. This only works if you two can keep awake, tho! Have a great (and safe) trip!
