Can I get a passport card?

Do you need a passport book before you can get a passport card?

  • Is it possible to just get a card rather than a passport book? I've also heard some countries such as Canada don't allow passport cards, is this true?

    Yes, you can apply for just the passport card. Canada is one of the only countries that does allow the passport card to be used. The passport card isn't good for travel by air - you can only use it if you go by car or boat.

Nope, you don't need a passport book to get a card. You can get a passport card OR a passport book OR both actually, if this is your request. Canada is actually one of the countries who accepts passport cards together with U.S. and Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.. The only restriction is travel by Air. But you can use the card with Travel by Land or Sea.
