Transit visa at Spanish airport (Barajas, Madrid)?

Can you apply for a transit visa at the Barajas airport in Madrid?

• Some international airports have an office where you can ask for a transit visa to go to an hotel outside of airport when the time between your flights is more than x hours (x varying with the country, my layover is 10+ hrs). Anybody knows if Barajas have such an office? If so, is there anything else I should know prior to making a transit visa demand? I called the airport directly, they said yes but given that I asked in french which wasnt the operator's native language I would prefer to double check.

Transit visa do not exist any more since the 5th of April 2010 [invention of the EU visa code]. If you want to leave the airport you will need to apply for a tourist visa [€60] in advance from the Spanish Embassy in your country, unless you hold a passport of a country that is visa exempt for the Schengen zone.
