Transit visa at Spanish airport (Barajas, Madrid)?

Travelling to the US with a transit in Madrid for 3 hours, do i need a transit visa? how can i get it ?

  • i am Egyptian, travelling to the US and my plane stops in Madrid Spain for three hours,i arrive at terminal 1 and my flight leaves from terminal 4S. i have a friend that will be in Madrid at the same time and i would like it if can get to see him during those 3 hours, Is it possible to get a transit visa? i have been to Europe several times before but now i don't have time to apply for the Schengen visa as it take 15 days and i am leaving on Monday the 30th. is there any way that i can get the transit visa and if not can i still see my friend at the airport or he will not be able to get through. Thanks

According to: http://www.skyteam.com/en/your-trip/Services/Visa-and-Health/ you don't need a visa to transit Spain, but it's not clear if you can leave the international transit area of the airport or not. You need to call the airline and/or the Spanish Embassy and ask if you can leave the international transit area of the airport.

As far as I know transit without a visa for citizens of Egypt is only possible airside, ie not leaving the international transit area. As you have to change terminals this will be a problem. You will probably need a visa. Contact a Spanish consulate ASAP.
