Do you have advice for a cross-country (USA and some of Canada) road trip?

I am planning on going on a cross-country (USA and some of Canada) road-trip next summer. If you have experience with this, what are some words advice that you would have to offer me? Thanks!

Answer:
Allow lots of time. I have driven cross country many times. There are only six US states that I haven't been in. That northwest corner keeps escaping me. Too often there is a schedule to keep and we don't have the time to do all the odd things that you'll see on signs as you drive through. Have I missed something by not getting too Boot Hill? Was the elevator up the Saint Louis Arch a good test for claustrophobia? Is the FREE water at Wall Drug some of the worst tasting water in the world? Did the others at the bottom of Carlsbad Caverns think I had lost my mind when I felt like I couldn't breathe? The US and Canada are huge and you could be zigzagging for months, but at each zig and zag there is another beautiful place to see. Have a great time.

I have taken about ten trips this past year. I love to take road trips. I would recomend that you see cades cove if you get to Tenn. Also, look for the state guides at the welcome centers. You get really great discounts at hotels motels ect. It took me a few trips to figure that out. Also, certain areas have much higher gas fees. Also, it can be really crowded at peek seasons. Try going to the less active spots in the summer months. good luck. by the way I travel alone and by car and really ejoy the beauty of the changes in the different states. quite grand!!

I hitchhiked a cross the country in the early 70's. my best advice Get brioches from a travel agent of things you like. And save lots of money. And the most important thing is not to go alone. Be careful, and have the best time of your life. If by chance you get to Tennessee, YOU HAVE TO GO TO DOLLY WORLD!
