Where should I go for my gap year?

Where to go as a lone female on gap year?

  • I want to do a gap year trip but I am not sure how long for. I'm from the UK and want to do one with a company but have no idea where to start. I would like to do conservation work, or anything really. I have no idea where to go, but I want somewhere relatively save (stable politically, low rape rate & crime rate e.t.c) I had the idea of south america or Asia, I am unwilling to go to Africa unless it was Morrocco. If anyone went on a gap year or anything it would be great to get some advice.

There are hundreds of young single girls backpacking around South Africa. I met probably 200 on my own travels and never heard a bad luck story. All that gets in the news is the bad stuff so then people think the whole country is nothing but. Actually, South Africa is one of the friendliest countries in the world News distorts reality. For South America i can recommend Chile as being particularly safe and a joy to be in. Brazil has too many problems, not a great place to be at the moment. Colombia gets bad news about drugs etc but away from the hills and the secret drug baron 'gardens' it's fine. The coastal towns especially are really nice. Trouble is in Chile and Colombia they speak South American Spanish at 600mph on a slow day and they drop morre syllables than in Castillian Spanish so it can be heavy going. Lots of folks speak good English though. You won't starve. Peru is nice too. Being up early in Miraflores in Lima and seeing the people walking their dogs or out jogging before breakfast is just like home. Miraflores is the place to stay in Lima. Very very nice. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g294316-d311718-Reviews-Miraflores-Lima.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/methodus/5731545065/ .Here's an old answer for a girl going there for a church for charity work http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090622104431AA8aABs How to do Peru (or anywhere else) cheaply...do it yourself http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100610123540AAF1i22 Travel...follow the links http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091210150313AAv32zP Have a great time

If you are 18, you could go on a year's working holiday to Australia or New Zealand. Work is easy to find, and you already speak the language, which puts you at a great advantage arriving in a new country.
