How do I get into hotel industry?

How to get a job in tourism industry... in a hotel or resort....?

• Hi, Although am an IT graduate but I always desired a career in tourism industry. I want to work at any leading resort or kind of touring job, in which i get the opportunity to work at the places where people come to enjoy themselves. I dont want to be working in kitchens in hotels. I would love to work as a guy who interacts with customers and ensure their satisfaction (in hotels or resorts) or also have the possibility of climbing senior positions. Please help me how do i go about it?? It would be great, too, if you throw some points about salary package a fresher can get?? I look fairly good and have a height of about 5 feet 5-6 inches. Please suggest. Thanks!

  Well if you don't have some sort of degree in hospitality or hotel management, you'll probably have to start at the bottom and work your way up. So it usually starts with working at the front desk and/or concierge desk. Just start applying to hotels. Since you want to work in a resort (?) apply at higher end hotels, or even start at a resort. The biggest problem with front desk work is it really doesn't pay much. Most people start at minimum wage or just a little above that if you have experience. The best way to climb up though, is of course, being the best at what you do. Being efficient, getting great guest feedback, and even offering suggestions that might help make things smoother or make guest that much more comfortable. ...not sure why you included your looks and height. :P
