Where can I find my book number in my passport?

Where is my US passport book number?

I am currently in the process of trying to renew my US passport. On the application, there is a field that asks for my passport book number. Is this the same as my 9-digit passport number? There is also a different 9-digit number underneath a bar code at the back of my passport book. Is this the book number? Or is the book number something different all together? Where can I find this number?

I think your best option is to call the National Passport Information Center and ask them. They have a toll free number. It is 1-877-487-2778. Customer service reps are available Monday to Friday, 6:00 am to midnight, eastern time, except for federal holidays.
