How would New York be for a family holiday?

On average how much would a holiday from UK to new york cost?

  • for about a week? id really love to go i just dont have a clue how much money id need

  • Answer:

I don't live in the UK. However this is my insight. I was just in NYC last weekend. I drove from Toronto. But I Stayed in Newark, NJ. Stayed at a hotel called the West Western Robert Treat. This hotel isn't fancy but its nice, clean and the breakfast lounge was nice. ($90 night) The hotel has a shuttle to Newark Airport that is free, also a shuttle to the Penn Station Newark- PATH train in to NYC. When we stayed there MC Hammer and Kevin Costner where also staying there (for the Funeral of Whitney Houston) Can also look at reviews on Trip Advisor. This PATH train is very convenient. $2.00 per person, kids were free. $20 minutes to Manhattan. Can go to Penn Station NY (up to Madison Sq. Gardens, time Sq, Macy's) or to lower Manhattan. We bought a Citypass at Empire state that allows you admission to 6 attractions at a discounted price (Cost was $220 for my family of 4 , My 6 year old was free with the pass) go to citypass.com for details. Then we took cabs. Spent under $100.00 in Taxi fares with tips incl. Found restaurants inexpensive but you need to plan out where you are going to eat to avoid the expensive tourist places. We did the WTC Memorial Centre walking tour. You can get a coupon from the information booth my the train station. Which saved us $10.00 Kids were free on the tour. Cost $30. was very worthwhile. In total we spent under $1500 for 4 nights. This incl. $250 in gas to and from Toronto. Also Skating at Wollman Rink in Central Park and Horse and Carridge ride for $40 in central park.

Depends. There is a flight leaving March 14 from London (LHR) to Newark International (EWR) for 375 euros...one way trip. So about 800 euros for plane tickets. Throw in at least another 580 american dollars for the hotel...around 360 euros? Not to mention food...travel activities such as the Museum of Natural History, a Yankee game at Yankee stadium, or a trip to Coney Island...another five-hundred dollars or so...Don't forget t-shirts or whatever... I'd say round it to 2,000 euros just in case. That is for one person. PS: If you love shopping, New York City has a bunch of stores, just VERY expensive. Try Barneys out...your wallet will hate you, but it is SO worth it. Indulge while your here! (Yes, I live in NYC)
