How to travel across the country with no money?

How can I use money when I travel to foreign country?

  • It's my first time to make a plan to go for a foreign country travelling, but there is a problem for me. How can I use money when i travel to foreign country? I don't want to exchange too much money and take them on my bags. What's more, the quantity of money is also limited. So how can I use money when I travel to foreign country? Should I use credit card? Or? Someone has good suggestions?

  • Answer:

Tell your bank to expect foreign transactions on your debit card and then use the cash machines. You'll normally get the best exchange rate that way. Off the plane, through immigration and find a machine in the main hall. Take a bit of local currency with you but not much. You use the machines exactly the same as at home . They take Visa and Mastercard cards almost everywhere in the world and those are the safest to travel with. Some places but not all will accept American Express. They are just as fast whether you are in Paris or St Petersberg. Enter your pin, buzz buzz, and the money options come up in a second or two. Some places there is a language option so choose English. The cash is in local currency but the card is billed in your own currency so when you get the statement you might see entries like Withdrawal...$100....Istambul when you withdrew 180 Turkish Lire Credit cards charge extra interest if you use them for cash withdrawals but they are a good safety back-up for travelling with. See the bottom of here under the last of the links on my answer. The rest of it is how to do foreign trips for a backpacker and it's the same in Africa or Asia or anywhere else. For hotels all that changes is accommodation. It's the same country, the same buses trains and planes, just a different price for the bed. http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuJ57xugbRY0mT_JJ3fHP93h5gt.;_ylv=3?qid=20120328182010AA7Ihzc

Most places in the civilized world you can just use your ATM card to get cash. This will usually get yout the best exchange rate. Check with your bank to see if there are ATM fees. Bank of America has agreements with some foreign banks to use their ATM network with no fees. Credit cards are good but most charge you a "foreign transaction fee". Check with your credit card to see what they charge. Capital One cards are one of the few that do not charge any foreign transaction fees. If you are going to do a lot of foreign travel it will be smart to get a Capital One credit card. Changing cash at the airport is the worst way. The airport kiosk charge very high fees.

Use a credit card whereever possible - you get the best exchange rate, much better than exchanging cash. only exchange a small amount of money, use only for places that will not accept credit card - street food vendors, etc. m
