Is it safe to travel to Brazil?

Is it safe for a teen to travel alone in Brazil?

• I am 17 and i want to travel to Brazil alone to stay with my good friend who lives there. My parents wont let me go because they have been reading about how dangerous it is for Americans (Mostly Rio,) My friend lives in Santa Catarina, and i have read that this is one of the safest cities in Brazil....Would i be right to say that i would be in no immediate danger (No more than i am in the USA)? Is it safe for me to go? Thanks -Danny

  Danny, (1) Brazil is not the safest place in the World, but USA is not, also. We know A LOT OF stories about Brazilian tourists robed or murdered in United States. These news are noticed in Brazil, but you will not see it noticed in the USA; (2) Brazil is not that hell your parents imagine. OMG, are they believing in tha movie "Turistas"?; (3) Americans are all that people who was born in Americas. It is not the nickname for US citizens. Brazilians are as americans as any person from United States; (4) Brazil is not dangerous for any special type of nationality. Do you know any motify for the World be most dangerous for people from USA? (5) I have a lot of answers about this same question and all I can say is: Yes. Exist a lot of crime in Brazil, but, most crimes has nothing to do with economic motivation. In other words, most crimes are pure violence: "firends" killing "friends"; people who shot another due to figth on transit; ex-boy friends who kill their ex-girlfirends, or vice-versa, etc. Most crime has nothing to do with robbery or money. Even crimes for economic motivation are comitted mainly against Brazilians. Not tourists. Brazilians are the main vicitms of thieves and murders in Brazil; (6) Santa Catarina is not a city, but, a state and Yes: it's safe and too much beautiful.
