Is it safe to travel in palmas?

Air travel, How safe is it?

  • How safe do you think is Air Travel compared to other modes of transportation? If you think Air Travel is safer compared to any other mode of travel, then please justify your answer (or) to put it in other way, what makes Air travel more safer (is it the technology or what is it)? In the similar way, if you feel, Air travel is a riskier mode of travel, then also please justify your answer. I would appreciate if you all provide correct to your belief answers rather than joking about this question.. Thank you all in advance and hope your answers will reveal the secrets of flying..

  • Answer:

Air travel actually is the safest form of travel, much safer than cars. Fewer people have died in commercial plane crashes over the past sixty years than die in auto accidents every three months. Your chances are 1 in 3 million. I think that the key here is COMMERCIAL plane crashes. Commercial carriers have to go through extensive safety protocol. Also, being a pilot involves a lot more training than just getting a driver's license, and while flying these people are doing their jobs, as opposed to the thousands of careless unskilled drivers that cannot be accounted for on the roads. There isn't anything intrinsically more safe about flying versus driving. It is just so much more limited and because of supposed riskiness requires more training, which accounts for the safety.

I think the last time a plane crashed (I mean airliner) in the US was about a month or 2 after 9/11, also in New York, I think Queens or Brooklyn. There have been some near misses, planes with landing gear problems, engine fires and things like that where planes have had to turn around and go back to their airport or divert to another, but thankfully, no domestic crashes in the last few years that I recall. There have been some overseas, but I don't remember details. There have been few internationally in recent years, also. About the most common aircraft accidents are with "Ultralights", I don't know much about them but they seem to go down fairly off. Some people are just afraid to fly. If I was afraid of something I'd be afraid of the commute to the airport on the highway. But if somebody has a phobia of flying, it is hard to convince them. I think it is because an airliner goes through all kinds of routine maintenance, safety checks before every flight, and all kinds of instruments on the plane to detect problems. In the 1970's some planes collided, I don't remember the details, but it happened. Now that is less likely, though not impossible with all the air traffic. I think 9/11 had one upside, airport security became so much more intense. Yes, it's bad if you're in a hurry, but (Thank God) there have not been any more incidents, some stopped and hopefully won't be any in the future. Accidents on the other hand can and will happen, but with safety procedures they can become even more rare.
