Flying with a swollen inner ear?

Can a fear of flying be related to an ear problem?

  • I used to love flying, and did so all the time. Then one day, as I was doing a round the world, I started feeling uncomfortable for no reason on a short, smooth flight. Then the next flight I was a lot more sensitive to plane movements. And then ever since I have become afraid of flying, not so much because I believe we are going to crash or be highjacked so much, but just because I am so sensitive to any plane movements, when it happens it's like I get a jolt of electricity on my nerve cells When I get in bad turbulence, I am close to passing out with dizzy spells, like the flight I just took today from Las Vegas back to London, we hit a pocket of bad turbulence and I felt so dizzy and so sensitive to it, in a way I never was. I never thought for a second we were going to crash, but the movements of the plane made me so dizzy and lightheaded, I thought I was going to throw up and faint! Could there be a problem with my sense of balance in my ear? I even get that feeling on trains and lifts sometimes
