Has anyone taken their stenograph through airport security?

What Measures Are Taken For Train Travel Safety?

  • I am thinking of taking a trip by train from NYC to Atlanta. I know all about airport screening for safety ~ but what about trains? Do they x-ray the baggage? Do they look through carry on luggage for security? When I looked around the Amtrak site it didn't really say anything about their safety measures. Does anyone on here have personal experience with train travel and could enlighten me?? Thanks!

  • Answer:

No they do not x-ray the baggage because there is absolutely no need for that sort of security theater on the railways - even if somebody was foolish enough to set a bomb off, it would not do much damage on a train - it's not as if it was 30,000 feet above the ground, and trains are much more substantial than aircraft. Someone once set a bomb off on a TGV train in France in the 1980s - even though the train was traveling at 168 mph (far faster than you will ever travel in the USA) the only effect was a smallish hole in the outside of the train, and no-one was hurt.

No, Amtrak does nothing! My daughter travels Amtrak all the time from Chicago to AR. You would think that such a major hub as Chicago would have some sort of screening. They don't. No metal detectors, nothing. You walk from the platform, right onto the train. Kind of scary isn't it?
