Where are the late night medical centres?

Are women safe in travelling to attend night shifts in IT/call centres?

  • With the IT boom, places like Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad etc have a new work culture. Young boys and girls move to these cities in search of job and they get placements in IT or call centre establishments. They need to travel by cabs during odd hours in the night and there were cases of rape, murder, misbehaviour etc while commuting besides sexual activities in the work place during night shifts. Todays biggest headache for facility management service providers in such establishments is the choking of toilets with condoms etc. Are these the hazards of economic boom and new work culture associated with that? Any solutions to protect our young daughters and sisters?

    No need to worry about it now. After a couple of incidents like rape and murder were reported, authorities have spruced up security. Even companies are having strict processes in place to ensure employee security. Choking toilets with condoms was an isolated case. It does not happen every where. Moreover The sexual activities which take place in the work place as you mentioned are not forced. More often than not...its consensual sex. (Reasons could be many, right from their erratic work timings to heavy work load etc). So if women are prepared and a bit more careful........simply there is no need to worry about your concerns.

Find another place to work? Never travel alone, but in groups, preferably mixed genders. Have the ladies take self defense lessons. Carry something in a spray can (hairspray) to spray at an attacker. As to the condom issue - that isn`t a problem, as the ladies then willingly participate. Get used to it.

well if you think the BPO industry is not safe then dont work in there though people in call centres take care bout the safety of girls specially if they are working during the night. the cases that you have metioned is prevalent everywhere nd not specifically in that particular industry.these things can happen even while walkin on the road. solutions can be tht girls should be taught self defence tactics. they can carry pepper spray all the time with them. never be the first to get in the cab and the last to leave the cab. if facing any sexual harrasment in the workplace then immediately complain to the HR department.
