US citizen retiring in Sweden?

US Citizen retiring in Sweden?

  • US citizen planning to retire in Sweden with Close to one mil.

  • Answer:

That won't be enough to retire in sweden if you want to live comfortably for more than 7/8 years. You will most likely have to work a bit, like a part time job. One million American is only about 6.2 million SEK (swedish kroners). This is not alot. But also do you know Swedish? It is not neccasiry to learn if you move to Sweden, but it definitely a must if you are expecting to get a job in Sweden. Also you do know that moving to Sweden as an American will be very hard, espically since you will not be working. So the government will hesitate giving you a visa. Aswell the tax rate is very high, that is why so many wealthy Swedes do not live in Sweden, instead they live in Switzerland, or London and just instead visit Sweden weekly. If you bring 1 million American with you to Sweden, the Swedish government will take around 300,000 of that, or even more. Don't be surprised if they would take half of it.
