What is the best way to deal with jet-lag?

I'm flying to Manchester, England from Houston. From there, I'll be taking a train to Leeds. I've heard it's a rough trip. Any suggestions on how to deal with the jet-lag?

By 7pm on the evening of your arrival, have a nice and long Scotch whisky with soda. Two or three drinks at the most and good sleep after a light meal.

You probably have booked your trip but if not........ Try to leave Houston and either...... - be passing over the east coast at around 7:00 Pm or so -or taking your connecting flight from the east coast around this time You spent biologicaly part of your day awake and getting to the east coast. Leaving the east coast is evening so after you eat, have a drink or whatnot you will be more inclined to sleep or at least relax. When you get to England it will be morning there. Your body will feel like nothing happened. Your clock will be in sync with the new time and be ready to take the train. When coming back this trick doesn't really work though.

Ditto to what the others say: water, and water. (You'll have to buy it after you pass through security.) On long flights like this one, I always take some sort of sleep aid or muscle relaxant. This way you are sure to sleep a good four hours or so on the plane. Getting to sleep on the plane is key--so that you can be refreshed when you arrive at your destination. You will be tired out by the flight anyway--but if you can at least function for a few hours after you land, you can get to your lodging in decent shape.
