Ear pain when flying?

  • Okay I have an issue.. usually i'm not scared of flying.. but then again i use to fly very short distances (500-700 miles) more recently i have been flying longer distances.. and my ears!!!!!!!!!! its not the popping pain that goes away with gum.. no way jose.. its EXCRUCIATING pain.. like.. someones in there squeezing and pulling in my ear canal.. it happens before the pilot says to put on seat-belts, and seriously.. when it happened i was about to scream but i controlled myself.. it was that painful.. i had tears coming down my eyes (luckily i had an empty row lol) how do u deal with that? im about to fly again and i don't want to suffer through that again.. i can't. this time i won't stop myself from screaming out loud.

    Did you have a cold? When you have a cold it MURDERS your ears with pain.

When I fly I have the same problem. When the plane starts landing, my ears are in so much pain that im doubled over in my seat. It hurts so bad. I just try to chew gum and just massage (for lack of a better term) my ears until the pain stops

i get the exact pain.. its so horrible and unbearable.. i absolute hate it.... but my dad told my that putting ear plugs or even listening to music with head phones helps and believe me so it does( with the ear plugs),,,,

I suffer from constant allergies and even when driving to high places I get horrible ear pain on my right ear. The night before flying I take 2 benadryls. Since it makes me sleepy it helps me sleep through the night and it also helps me with my allergies. Now I never have problems with high altitudes when I use the pills. Best Wishes!

Chew gum like it is going out of style. Ear pain can be from an infection too so see a good doctor. Ear plugs can hurt your inner ear worse unless it is a listening device hooked to their television. They cost you about two dollars.
