I have a clogged ear, and im suppost to leave for a trip, will my ears hurt on the airplane?

Im leaving in 3 days, and my ears have felt clogged up after i got out of the pool about 2 days ago. Ive been using swimmers ear, peroxide, and mineral oil. Will the airplane effect my ear to hurt? & Would earplugs help?

Answer:
As long as your ears aren't painful right now due to clog, you shouldn't have any abnormal pain when you're in the air. For instance, if you had an ear infection prior to flying, the pain from the pressure is out of this world. That happened to me once. You should be fine though as long as you don't have any pain and pressure from being in the air may cause your ears to open up again. I would continue to do what you're doing and use the tips the previous poster gave you above and you should be fine. Ear plugs won't prevent the pressurization though so I wouldn't buy them.

Earplugs might help, but your ears will hurt anyway from change in pressure in which your ears cannot adjust to fast enough, which causes it to hurt badly (I hate this!). Try eating gum, swallowing good amounts of liquids would help get rid of the clog in your ears, so gum would work best even on the plane. Hope this helps!

Yes it will most likely cause them to rupture. Both my husband's and mine eardrums have done this and it is excruciating!! I would get those earplane earplugs for flying,(relaves pressure by something they are made of, the website explains below) but with plugged ears this may or may not work. Once a eardrum ruptures it takes getting off the plane and being on the ground from 15mins-an hour. This is gonna mean few sounds coming in that ear and pain until it clears. I would suggest going to the doctor, they can fix a plugged ear usually in one visit, you may just have wax over your eardrum. They will flush your ear with their special little tool and fix it. Let me stress don't try to do this yourself you could damage your eardrum. There are also wax dissolving ear drops out there. You could try them but if you notice no change in 24hrs GO TO YOUR DOCTOR!!

unless you have felt the pressure leaving your ear over the past time since you were out of the pool I would strongly suggest you go to a doctor so they can get rid of the clog. You might feel lots of pain if you don't.
