What is the best seasickness cure?

Seasickness, anyone???? Who's been through it & what's the best cure????

  • Answer:

If you get seasick easily, don´t go out to the sea. It takes some courage and discipline to fight sea sickness. Eat healthy before leaving out to sea. Stay hidrated (drink water), and stay out in open and fresh spaces. Don´t waste your time trying to go and sleep into a closed cabin (if you´re in a yacht).

The best prevention I've used is Meclizine (meclozine) which is in Bonine and Non-drowsy Dramamine. Not clear if it's available in Australia....brought half a pack from the US but pretty panicked now that I may not be able to get it when I run out. Then it's back to Dramamine and sleepyness I guess. I'll ask the pharmacist tomorrow and find out.

you can get a prescription for a patch to go behind your ear that stops getting sea sick. It is a little disc that sticks to your skin and I think it works for about 2 or 3 days before you will need a new one. Works perfect, used it years ago and not that spendy to assure you aren't tossing your cookies.

Chocolate worked for me but not to much, have fun.

I have had seasickness several times in my life and do not know of a CURE! But I know that you can take Dramamine to PREVENT it from happening. Usually, when it happens and I am not prepared and before I knew about Dramamine, I tried to put something sourish in my mouth and keep it there, like a sour candy. It only helps briefly. Breathing in a lot of fresh air relieves it somewhat. Like if in a ship, go to the open deck and breathe in that salty sea air. It helps a little. But just A LITTLE!

I swear by the wrist bands. I used to suffer horrendously and on a particular ferry trip, whilst I was hung over the railings at the back of the boat, a friend found these bands in the shop. I was fine on the way back and I've been fine on every trip I've done since, including a very rough crossing through the Drake Passage on my way to Antarctica. You put them bands on BEFORE you go to sea for best results, although you can put them on once you're sailing. The best thing about them is that they're natural - the patches seep a chemical into your body that can cause side effects and obviously taking tablets means you're injesting chemicals, whereas the bands work on accupressure points. I actually now enjoy boat trips - there's no way I would have considered going to Antarctica, or any other type of trip involving days at sea, previously. In the last 10 years, I've done several.

Dramamine or sea band ( maybe both , but I would read each label before trying it )

Once you get it you can't cure it until you get on land or get over it. You best bet is preventative medicines like dramamine, sea band, the patch. They have the non drowsy formula of dramamine now.
