Is it safe to drink water in Hong Kong?

  • I wondering, is it safe to drink water by the tap in Hong Kong? i am not sure if is true or not. i have heard stories that they have got sick from it. and what kind of sickness if i got sick from it?

    Being a city, Hong Kong is probably safer than most places in Asia. Still, when I was in Beijing, I always drank bottled water and even brushed my teeth with it. If you got sick from the water, it would probably be at least several hours of vomiting and/or diarrhea and a fever. Not fun. I got sick, probably from the water, in Mongolia, and it was terrible. Have a safe and healthy trip!

Never drink water in a foreign country. Your body's immune system could not tolerate the bacteria and parasites in other country's water filter systems. Drink bottled water. Don't order anything with ice cubes unless the ice cubes are made from bottled water.

Hong Kong water in urban areas is safe to drink, although bottled water is widely available. If you are just going to visit for a short period of time then I would suggest that you don't take that risk. In mainland China almost everyone buys bottles of water - it's very cheap, and most rooms in hotel etc will have a water cooler which is safe, so maybe you could check some information about that if you know where you will be staying.
