What happens if USPS delivers a package to my school when my school is closed?
-
USPS just gave me a conformation that my package was delivered. I had it delivered to my school because that's where i live. but our post office is closed today because it's the weekend. How did my package get delivered?

Answer:
It depends on any unofficial agreements your school has with the post office / letter carrier. It could've been left been left at the doorstep or in some letter repository at your school, or the letter carrier may have just retained the package for delivery on Tuesday. The post offices policy of handling packages is to leave the package at the doorway if the recipient is unavailable. If delivery requires a signature / confirmation then the letter carrier will retain the package and leave an official notice on your door with limited details of the package origin and your options for delivery. Of course, if you've instructed the letter carrier in the past or posted written instructions on your door, the carrier will do their best to adhere to those instructions while obeying the rules governing the delivery of the particular type of package., Example: In the past, the postal customer has been victimized by thieves who've stolen packages left at the doorway. The letter carrier was verbally asked by the postal customer to leave packages with the retired neighbor across the street or retain if the neighbor is also unavailable. Since letter carriers typically work regular routes, they remember your special instructions and comply for numerous years while working your route. BUT, you receive a package on the day your usual carrier is off work and the replacement carrier who is unaware of your special instructions just leaves the package at your doorstep as dictated by policy...and your package is stolen from your doorstep. The Postal Service nor the carrier are liable.

USPS delivers mail Monday - Saturday. It is possible that your local PO has no business hours on Saturday for the public to buy stamps or do other business, but the carriers are working.
