Can I use an expired passport at the dmv?

Can you order a passport with an expired drivers license? (with extension)?

  • So I lost my wallet the other day with my drivers license in it. I went to the DMV and ordered a new one as well as getting the little temporary license slip. My problem is that I have to board an international flight next week and I needed my I.D. to same day a passport from the San Francisco regional passport center. I have my old expired drivers license that has my picture and information on it, and together with that and the temporary paper license I have right now I've been able to get into bars and order drinks, etc. All of the stuff that you would normally need a license to do. Anyone know if the passport office will allow me to use my expired license along with my extension as an acceptable form of identification?

They say they want a valid driver's license, so in theory you'd be OK since your temp license is valid. But I'd suggest finding a friend who does have ID to go along and attest that you are who you say you are, since that's definitely OK for a passport..
