How to get a visa to the country of Ecuador?

Can I get a visa in a country while i'm in that country?

I'm going to Ecuador, but want to head out fast. You need a student/ volunteer visa to stay in Ecuador longer than 90 days, i'm eligible for either/or but the organizations i'm working with are slow on getting back to me with paper work. Would it be possible to head out, go to Ecuador and get the visa while i'm there before the ninety day grace period is up?
Answer:

You can't switch to the student visa if you enter on a 90 day tourist visa....at least that's what I was told while applying for my visa. You can apply for the 6 month tourist visa at the nearest Consulate and then adjust the visa to the student visa if you wish the stay longer. The 6 month visa is pretty simple to get and takes less than a month.
