USPS lost a package - what should I do?

Package from USPS got stolen/lost, what can i do?

  • I bought an HDTV off ebay, and it had a "Tracking Number" on it. Well, the USPS website says my item was delivered on Sept. 21st at 8:00AM, but i was at work that day, and when i cam home, nothing was there. I went to my POST office, and they said "we dont carry large heavy items like TV'S" so the lady there said she would contact the "carrier", which i dont even know what carrier it was. I live in an "okay" neighborhood, lived here for 1 year, and the only thing that happened was that they stole our Air Conditiong unit on the first day after i bought my house, other than that, me and my next door neighbor talk alot, and she said she didnt see anything on that wednesday. SO, if it was stolen (which i think its a 50-50 unless it got lost in the usps truck?) what can i do? do i report it to ebay? i have 100% feeback on many items, including items that costed much more than this TV. Was it my fault? or the USPS?

  • Answer:

I would like to say that there is no way that the article was delivered at 8 am, as the carriers got into the office no earlier than 7:30 am, so you had what was known as a premature scan I also cannot believe that the sender did not insure the bejeezus out of it and the caliber of insurance on it would require a signature upon delivery. also, no carrier worth his salt is going to leave such an obvious item out in the open where everyone can see it (and steal it) Too much time has passed for an investigation to take this long. You should have been contacted back no later than the 23rd. at this point, I would file a formal complaint against the office at 800-275-8777 and get answers from them

Adding to stephens answer; You should still open a case with ebay. Did you pay with paypal? if not never buy such high priced item on ebay any other way. Anyways they have buyer protection so go ahead and open a case. Do you know how big the box would have been? far as I know USPS has a size limitation on it also, thats why I always used UPS for big package shipping. It seems very odd. Try contacting seller as well for information about his packaging and how he had sent it.

I have a feeling that you might have been scammed as USPS does not deliver large items like TV's - it should have been sent via UPS.
