Do I need a licence to fly an airplane?

What kind of ID do you need to ride on an airplane from one state to another in the USA?

  • I'm wondering about this because soon I'm going to be moving to another state. My mom is gunna have me and my lovely dog ride an airplane to our new location. So what type of ID do I need to ride an airplane from one state to another? Do I need a passport or do you just need a State ID/Drivers Licence? Thank you ahead of time for your answers. :)

  • Answer:

You can't you have to use an aeroplane. For domestic flights a passport always works, but any State photo ID will be ok. Yes a driving licence will do. You can even fly with no ID at all but expect a pretty through grilling at the airport if you try it.

For US domestic flight, adults (over 18) need to show a government issued photo id, passports, state id's, state drivers licenses are all a form of such id, the full list is shown here: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/acceptable_documents.shtm

You generally don't need a passport unless you are traveling outside of the country. A drivers license or state/military ID will work fine.
