What is the baggage limit?

Flying American (domestically) then connecting to Qantas (international flight) -What is my baggage limit?

  • Hey! I'm travelling on American Airlines from Miami to Los Angeles, followed by Qantas from Los Angeles to Sydney. (MIA-LAX-SYD) Qantas allows economy/coach passengers 2 pieces of checked luggage at 32kg/70lbs each. Whereas American only allows 23kg/50lbs each. I know American will send my bags directly to SYD but do you think I will have to pay to check the 2 bags in considering I start with a domestic flight? (MIA-LAX) ***Since American Airlines and Qantas are OneWorld partners do you think American will allow Qantas' 32kg limit since i'm connecting to Qantas???? 'Tis complicated, I appreciate any insight!

  • Answer:

you should be fine checking in 2 bags of 70lb at mia because your actual rout is mia-syd and since you cant go direct and the only way to do it is through lax, therefore you are allowed. in june, my mum and dad were flying from jfk-phl--man and when they checked in, the woman behind the desk wanted to charge them $150! for the second bags!!! luckily my dad had called us air and got a conformation from them that he would not be charged since he is going to man. you will be fine. any issues just tell them you are flying international and just in transit at lax and all should be good!! happy hols!
