Shipping from India to Canada?

Shipping something expensive without tracking number?

  • Shipped without tracking number? So I have an eBay ad for an expensive, small jewellery piece ($230). I offered the cheapest shipping option at $8, but also strongly advised the $18 safest option. I explain in the ad that the $8 option does not include a tracking number nor insurance, so it's the buyers choice. Whereas the $18 has it registered (tracking number, delivery confirmation/signature, and insurance). I sold 3 and had them shipped out just today. All 3 buyer's chose the cheapest option. I am in Canada so one is going pretty close, going to the USA, another to France, and another to India. I asked for a 'FRAGILE' sticker to be put on the package/padded envelope as well so that could help.(Even though it's not incredibly fragile, just small and expensive!) -Do you think I will be ok? I feel very uncomfortable shipping without any of those features and am paranoid that something will happen. I kept my receipt from the post office for proof, just in case...but I'm still worried. Anyways, its more likely for everything to go well rather than wrong so I'm hoping I'll be ok! What do you think? What are the chances something goes wrong?

Forgive me for saying so, but you can be setting yourself up for world of financial hurt. Delivery Confirmation is your ONLY way to cover yourself in case a buyer claims the item was never received. In fact, at the price of $230, you would actually NEED to purchase Signature Confirmation to have complete coverage for the item. Plus, at a price of $230, I would have eaten the additional cost of the Signature Confirmation myself rather than risk LOSING $230 to an unscrupulous buyer. AND I would have eaten the cost for insurance as well. A receipt from the PO means nothing to eBay. They only view DC and Signature Confirmation as valid forms of proof that an item was delivered. Hopefully your items will arrive and (even more importantly) you have honest buyers. But as it stands right now, you have no way to prove the item was ever delivered...or even mailed. So if just ONE buyer files an item-not-received claim against you, you WILL lose and you WILL be out $230 AND the item. Sorry. Hope this helps you at least in the future.

You will be fine. Your EBAY ad shows that you offered different types of shipping and tons of information and that the buyer elected other options. Also, your receipt is proof that you did mail the item. I have sent many ebay items in the mail before and have never had a problem. I don't even think USPS allows tracking numbers internationally, just in the US.

You better hope that you have three honest customers. Any one of them can claim that they never received their merchandise and obtain full refunds because you can not show any proof of delivery. Insurance, tracking, Registered Mail service all protect YOU, the seller. Another thing to consider, do not offer a myriad of shipping services. Even though smallish, you should send these things by a service like USPS Priority Mail International. I think Canada still has the Small Packet class of mail. Do not use it. As you know, you can not insure the packet and even if registered, you will not see any delivery information online and the maximum indemnity paid is under $50 US. Here's the thing, Ebay merchandise sent without an online verifiable delivery scan is usually called a gift by dishonest buyers. You need to ask yourself if you can afford to be out $690 if the buyers claim non-receipt.
