How old is Geneva, Switzerland?

How do I pack for a year working in Geneva, Switzerland?

  • How do I possibly fit everything into two suitcases? Any tips?

  • Answer:

I'm having the same dilemma. I have to try and find a way to fit all my stuff into 2 suitcases. The first thing I thought was, if something is easily replaceable and inexpensive, then don't pack it. Also, prepare a good sized carry on. Pants are the heavier than shirts, and take up a lot more room, so don't fold them ordinarily, roll them. Another thing I think I'm going to try is something I saw in Wal-Mart a few days back. It was in the organizing section with all those plastic draws, shelves and stuff like that. How is works is you put a certain amount of clothes inside one of their special plastic bags, and attach some sort of sucking thing to (it comes with it) and basically all the air is sucked out of the bag and the stuff inside gets so flattened against eachother. It's like the bag starts out as 6" wide and ends up 1" wide. It looks pretty good, which is why I'm going back for it tomorrow.

I spent a year in Zurich as a student, and I was able to make it with one checked bag and a carry on. Of course at the end of the year I did end up mailing a box home of stuff I could not fit into my bags. Pack things like shampoos, lotions (things that are cheap and easily replaced). There will likely be a weight limit by the airlines, so weigh your bag ahead of time. A way I have found to make things fit better (especially if the clothes aren't damaged by wrinkling) is to roll them tightly. I have found they pack in closer than by just folding them neatly. Keep in mind that some things, like a bath towel are easier to buy when you get there, and save a lot of room. If you don't have winter clothes yet, wait until you get there. That will save a lot of room, and the products there are really good quality. If nothing else, someone could ship the winter clothes when the weather starts to get colder. Hope this helps.
